Vancouver's wet coastal climate means long stretches of rain and damp, and temperature swings between the mountains and the ocean. Moisture rusts springs, cables and hinges, swells and rots wood doors, and wears out the rubber seals that keep water out. We use rust-resistant hardware and good-quality weather seals, and we recommend a yearly tune-up so small problems don't become a breakdown.

Door won't open or close: something is blocking the door or the safety sensors — clear the path. The safety sensors may be misaligned (they should face each other with both lights on steady). The remote or opener may have lost power, or the remote battery is dead. A bent track, a broken spring or a loose cable needs a technician.

Noisy door: squealing or grinding means worn rollers; squeaking or popping means dry or worn springs; rattling means loose hardware; screeching means a misaligned track or rusty hinges.

Sagging or crooked door: usually a worn spring or a cable problem. This is a job for a professional only.

Opener not working: check the remote batteries, the wall control and that the opener has power. A power outage stops the opener; use the red emergency release to open the door by hand.

Backing into a closed or half-open door is one of the most common reasons we're called out. An impact can dent the bottom panels, push rollers out of the track and loosen or break a cable. A door that has come off its track is heavy and unstable, so don't try to force it back. Leave it where it is and call us.
