When to Replace Your Garage Door Weatherstrip

Weatherstrip is easy to forget. A worn seal doesn't stop the door opening or closing, so it can fail for months before anyone notices. Watch for these four signs. If you see them, we can usually replace your weatherstrip the same day.

1. It Looks Worn or Damaged

Look closely along the bottom of the door and the sides and top of the frame. Cracked, flattened, brittle or missing rubber means it's time for a new seal. Replacing it on time prevents the other problems below.

2. Leaves, Water or Litter in the Garage

If you find leaves, rainwater or blown-in litter on the floor in the morning, the seal is probably letting it in. A broken weatherstrip gives wind and rain an easy path.

3. Mice or Rats in the Garage

Rodents squeeze through surprisingly small gaps and like to nest in garages. A new bottom seal is one of the best ways to keep them out.

4. The Garage Feels Draftier

Garages aren't insulated like the rest of the house, so some chill is normal. But if the garage suddenly feels colder or draftier, worn weatherstrip is a likely cause, and it can make the rooms above or beside the garage colder too.
