Can I Replace One Section of My Garage Door, or Do I Need a Whole New Door?

It happens often: a garage door that's only a few years old gets dented in one spot by a car, a ball or a bike. Homeowners and business owners understandably want to avoid paying for a whole new door, but a dent or hole also spoils the look of the house.

On older doors, around 10 years or more, small dents and scratches can let rust start, usually in one or two places.

How We Decide

Our technician inspects the damage on site. Depending on where it is and how bad it is, we'll tell you whether replacing just the damaged section will do the job or whether a new door makes more sense. Replacing one section is often very cost-effective, and the door works and looks almost new again.

When a Single Section Works

• The damage is limited to one or two sections.
• The door is in otherwise good condition.
• Matching sections are still made for your door's brand, model and colour.

When a New Door Makes More Sense

• Several sections are damaged, or the damage is structural.
• Matching sections are no longer made; manufacturers update their designs every so often.
• The door is old, rusting in several places or poorly insulated.
